Ricky Lee to hold online scriptwriting workshops for free
Calling all aspiring scriptwriters!
What better way to learn how to fuel your passion than with a masterclass from award-winning scriptwriter Ricky Lee himself?
Made possible by the Cinemalaya Institute Training Program, Lee is holding two online scriptwriting workshops for free. The training sessions are part of the organization’s new vision during this time “as it redefines its direction and strategy while remaining significant and continuing to fulfill its mission of discovering, encouraging, supporting, training, and recognizing gifted Filipino independent filmmakers.”
Open to all Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad, the Cinemalaya Scriptwriting Masterclass on April 14 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) will look into the foundations of storytelling for film. Click here to register for the event.
The Cinemalaya Intensive Scriptwriting Workshop is limited to only 30 participants who have gone through a selection process. It will have eight weekly sessions from May 26 to July 14 (Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) focusing on the step-by-step creation of “compelling scripts told in one’s unique voice.” Among the requirements for interested applicants are a 1-2 page storyline and a writer’s intention for the material. You may sign up for the seminar here.
As per Cinemalaya, the notable works of Lee—who has been leading free scriptwriting workshops since 1982—include scripts like Himala, Moral, Karnal, Anak, and Jose Rizal as well as novels like Para Kay B, Si Amapola, and Bahay ni Marta.
