Want to learn Japanese for free? Here's your chance

Konnichiwa! Want to brush up on your Japanese skills? Quezon City will offer free online basic classes on the language starting in April.

In a Facebook post, the Quezon City Public Library said participants must be 18 and up; have a laptop, desktop, or smartphone; have a stable internet connection; and a Zoom account.

The free online classes will cater to 500 successful applicants and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Successful applicants will be notified via email, to which they must confirm their attendance within 24 hours.

They must use their official names during class, held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on different dates.

Students will receive a digital certificate of participation after submitting a duly accomplished evaluation form provided at the end of the classes, which are set to take place on the following dates:

  • April 17
  • May 8
  • June 19
  • July 10
  • Aug. 14
  • Sept. 11
  • Oct. 9
  • Nov. 13
  • Dec. 11

Launched in the Philippines in 2019, the program is hosted by the QCPL with Jellyfish Education Philippines, the local arm of the Japanese consultancy company that offers language education services. Jellyfish is also serving Vietnam and Indonesia.
