Vlogger-entrepreneur Rosmar Tan reveals how she increased her P200,000 daily income to P13 million

Rosmar Tan made the rounds online after revealing that she earns P5 million to P13 million per day.

The social media influencer, vlogger, and entrepreneur made the revelation in her interview with actress-host Toni Gonzaga in the latter's vlog Toni Talks. Recalling her entrepreneurial journey, she shared that she started trying her hand at business in elementary, but her big break came when she adopted a bulldog. It was supposed to be euthanized since it was suffering from mange—a skin disease that "affects mammals caused by microscopic mites that burrow into the skin," according to Cornell University's health lab.

In hopes of getting her pet treated, Rosmar followed the advice of a doctor, who told her to try treating it with the Madre de Cacao plant.

“Kumontak agad ako kay papa, sabi ko, ‘Papa, pagpitas mo 'ko ng maraming Madre de Cacao, ibebenta ko.’ Parang oo, gagamutin ko aso, pero mindset ko na sobrahan niya yung dahon, which is ibebenta ko,” she recalled. She initially sold it for P100 per bundle but received backlash from social media users who claimed it was "overpriced."

Still driven by her entrepreneurial mindset, Rosmar shared she thought of different ways to sell it. She later decided to blend the leaves to get their extract and sell it in bottles called “Mysterious Madre de Cacao” for P350. It eventually extended to gallons priced at P1,000, which enabled her to earn P40,000 a day.

The 29-year-old influencer established a pet shop, salon and spa, and restaurants offering unlimited chicken wings, boodle fights, and Korean barbecue. She also started a thrift shop and fish store simultaneously.

“Kada may makikita po akong commercial space, parang hindi ko mapigilan, ‘Ay rerentahan ko ‘to, ‘Akin ‘to,’ parang ganun,” she said. And since it all operated at the same time, she revealed she was faced with major business problems when the pandemic hit in 2020 as people had to stay home to keep themselves safe from COVID-19.

Despite the mountain of bills—including the monthly salary of her employees—that she had to fulfill, Rosmar shared she was able to recover slowly from it all. She then decided to focus on her skincare business, where she was, at the time, earning P200,000 per day. Her beauty label, however, drew flak after it was publicized that she failed to secure a permit from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before selling her products.

The incident prompted Rosmar to take a break from business, but things changed for the better when she was approached by a different manufacturer that let her continue her skincare label—using the P300,000 from a P1 million cash wedding gift from her parents.

Rosmar's approach to business

In building her business, the vlogger-entrepreneur shared that she makes sure to test her own products before releasing them to the public.

There even came a time when she took product promotion to a whole new level by posting photos of her own bikini area to prove the effectiveness of her whitening products.

“Ako po ‘yung tao na hindi ko talaga kayang gawin din 'yun kung tutuusin, pero para sa brand, para sa ikakapaniwala ng mga customers ko na ako mismo ‘yung user, [gagawin ko],” she explained.

Rosmar recalled choosing to work and promote her products on social media while she was still in labor.

She shared that her efforts for her skincare line led to increasing sales and social media interactions, which eventually turned her P200,000 daily income into P10 million to 13 million per day, and P5 million on slow days.

The social media personality also takes pride in having zero loans and acquiring her sports cars and 20 properties in cash.

“Bale lahat po ng property na binili po naming mag-asawa tsaka po mga sasakyan, cash po lahat ‘yun,” she revealed. “Wala po akong utang.”

“Kung hindi ko po kaya bilhin, hindi ko po bibilhin,” she shared.

Bureau of Internal Revenue on taxing social media influencers

Rosmar became part of X’s trending topic list after sharing her story online. While social media users were quick to celebrate her achievements, there were some who raised concerns about taxes.

"I think it's okay to flex, Rosmar, basta make sure lang na nagbabayad tayo ng tamang tax," an X user tweeted.

"Compute the tax due of Rosmar," another one wrote.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) released a memorandum in 2021 reminding social media influencers to declare their taxes from the “huge earnings” they get across social media platforms.

According to a report by The Philippine STAR, the BIR said early this month that they are having a hard time making online personalities comply with their tax obligations, despite seeking a dialogue with them in March.

“Yes, (it is difficult). We will not mince words. It might take some time, but that’s what we’ve been doing,” BIR Assistant Commissioner Jethro Sabariaga told the press at a tax symposium.

“We are trying to win their side in the engagement process. The more that you can ask them to do voluntary compliance, the better rather than to fight with them,” he added.

As stated in the 2021 memo, those who evade taxes will be subject to a P500,000 to P10 million fine.

PhilSTAR L!fe has reached out to the BIR for a comment on Rosmar's viral interview, but has yet to receive a reply.
