It's not always calming, spa-like music that will get you more Zzzs. According to a recent study from Denmark, popping groovy music into your sleep playlist, like that of BTS and Billie Ellish, can also do you wonders.

On Jan. 18, researchers from Aarhus University in Denmark published a study regarding the audio features of sleep music. Over 200, 000 tracks from 985 Spotify playlists that relate to sleep were analyzed to compare sleep songs and general music.

They provided three categories, with one tagged as sleep music, or songs that are "softer" and "slower." Another category included songs "with high energy and tempo."

This included tracks like Dynamite by BTS and Lovely, a collaborated song by Billie Eilish and Khalid.

The researchers found out that music that people are familiar with helps the most in making them sleep.

The findings read, “even though sleep music, in general, is softer, slower, instrumental and more often played on acoustic instruments than other music, the music people use for sleep displays a large variation, including music characterized by high energy and tempo.”

In summary, the researchers concluded that people choose music that they are familiar with, allowing them to relax despite its upbeat sound, hence, there is no “one-size-fits-all" sleep music.

“The study can both inform the clinical use of music and advance our understanding of how music is used to regulate human behavior in everyday life,” the researchers said.
