Lance Bass and husband Michael Turchin reveal they’re expecting twins
There are two buns in the oven for the couple!
These are exciting times for ’N Sync alum and actor Lance Bass and husband Michael Turchin as they revealed they are having twins—a boy and a girl—via a surrogate due later this year.
The couple has been married since 2014. They posted on their respective social media accounts a Halloween-themed movie trailer that gave a hint to their followers that they are going to be dads, and not just of one but two bundles of joy.
Bass, who is obsessed with anything Halloween (hence the theme of their announcement video), captioned his post, “Coming this Fall” with the hashtag #HappyPride.
Speaking to People on their announcement, the couple looked back on their long journey, from several surrogacy attempts to a surrogate miscarriage.
“Because of what we’ve been through the last four years, we were very cautious to get excited. And it kind of sucks because when you find out you’re pregnant, you want to celebrate with your family,” said Bass, referring to the time when their surrogate miscarried while pregnant with twins last year.
“You start planning their future in your head already, but we were so scared because we didn’t want to go through the pain again of losing them,” he said. Despite the challenges, the couple did not give up.
They revealed in 2019 that they were trying to expand their family and have since gone through nine different egg donors.
Bass shared that deciding to have twins was a no-brainer as his husband, Turchin, has a twin sister and loves that experience. They also said they’ve always wanted to have a family with at least two kids.
As first-time dads, Bass and Turchin are looking forward to many things like celebrating the holidays through a child’s eyes and providing them happy experiences that they could treasure. Turchin said he hopes their children will like each other and be best of friends.
“I like my sister, we were best friends and that was the cool part of growing up—I always had a best friend with me all the time. I was never bored. That connection is super rare to have with a sibling when you’re that close. It’s just a really special relationship and I’m excited to see that play out with our kids,” Turchin said.
As for the baby names, Bass said they are “pretty set” and are thinking about passing down some family names to their children. But he said in jest that the names of his former bandmates—Chris, JC, Joey and Justin—are not off the table.
