You can now donate your quarantine hair to this hospital
We often see our crowning glory as a reflection of our identity; not only does it give us personality, but it also boosts our mood and self-confidence. But unfortunately, due to side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, most cancer patients are suffering from hair loss or alopecia. And in effect, many don’t “feel as self-confident as before treatment,” a study showed.
While there may be synthetic wigs built from faux hair, not all wigs mimic the look and feel of real human hair, some also may be too small for children, and for others, it may be a little out of the budget.
Luckily, there are many organizations and donation drives accepting hair that will be used in making wigs for cancer patients. If you’re looking for an organization where you could donate hair, you can do so at MakatiMed Cancer Center.
Previously, they held annual hair donation drives through their Gift of Your Hair events, which also gave free haircut and styling to those who dropped off their donations.
Now, they’re asking more donors for their campaign. Those who wish to donate should store their dry, ponytailed hair in a resealable bag. Naturally curly or wavy hair are also accepted, but it must also be free of chemicals and should be at least 9 inches long. Although due to the pandemic, no free haircuts will be given. But it’s okay! Knowing that you will make someone happy is just as rewarding.
