The Ask Mara AI contraceptive chatbot is the go-to virtual safe space we all need
Talking about sex often feels awkward, invasive, and embarrassing—unless you’re talking to someone you trust. For women, finding a safe space to discuss different options when it comes to preventing unwanted pregnancies and contraceptives is difficult.
With more women searching for a platform to discuss their reproductive health and sexual concerns, the Ask Mara PH contraceptive AI chatbot now provides a safe space to ask anything about women’s health.
Ask Mara PH, a Facebook Messenger bot established in 2019, is described as a platform to “empower women to make informed choices about contraception, reproductive health, and women’s health topics.” But the page also recommends users to contact an “attending physician for further guidance.”
Before interacting with Mara, you will be asked to agree to its privacy policy and terms depending on the type of answers she’ll provide. When I asked her about the pill, she provided me with a list of information within seconds.
Ask Mara provides fast facts on different types of contraceptives emphasizing their various pros, cons, and other in-depth information. Best of all, Ask Mara gives a list of drugstores or clinics where to find these forms of contraceptives.
The chatbot can only recognize messages in English, as of this writing.
