Joshua Garcia admits he gets self-conscious about his body: 'Hindi ako naseseksihan sa sarili ko'
It's no secret that Joshua Garcia is one of the Philippines' most admired celebrities, brought about by his charming looks that can make anyone's heart flutter with just a smile. But beneath all that, the actor admitted that he is actually self-conscious about his body.
"Hindi ako naseseksihan sa sarili ko," Joshua revealed as guested in the newest episode of Fast Talk With Boy Abunda.
During his interview with Boy, the two discussed Joshua's latest project Unbreak My Heart, a romantic drama series that marks GMA and ABS-CBN's first collaboration together. In it, he shares the spotlight with the likes of Jodi Sta. Maria, Gabbi Garcia, Richard Yap, Eula Valdes, Nikki Valdez, Sunshine Cruz, Gardo Versoza, among others.
When the teaser for the show was released back in March, the internet went crazy after it showed Joshua passionately kissing Jodi, signaling to fans that they can expect lots of steamy and sexy scenes from the series.
Boy asked Joshua about his thoughts on how he is "defining the new sexy" despite lacking the rock-hard abs present in most leading men.
The actor then confessed that he is actually insecure about his physique, "Nung napapanood ko nga 'yung sarili ko, 'Eto na, makikita ko na naman 'yung nipples ko.'"
He then shared that the script of Unbreak My Heart would point out whenever he needed to take off his shirt. To prepare for these scenes, Joshua said he would hilariously try to whip his body into shape at the last minute instead of undergoing a consistent training program to make his body fit.
"Natatawa si Direk sa akin kasi nagpe-prepare ako na nagpu-pushup pushup ako, nung mismong araw na 'yun, kung kailan kukunan," he said. "Binabawi ko na lang sa arte talaga."
Despite this, Boy pointed out that him being modest and shy about his appearance just makes him even sexier.
Discussing his torrid kiss with Jodi, Joshua said that he initially expected scenes like that to be challenging since it was his first time to do love scenes with Jodi.
"Akala ko challenging siya, pero mabuti na lang dumaan kami sa sensuality workshop," Joshua recounted. "Doon kasi sa sensuality workshop, doon mo malalaman kung hanggang saan lang 'yung limit mo. Kung hanggang saan 'yung pwede mong hawakan, pwede mong halikan, gaano katagal. Sobrang detailed."
He went on, "May tongue ba yan? Without tongue? Lahat, so doon namin nilinaw."
He then expressed his gratitude to Jodi and Gabbi for putting their trust in him to do the sensual scenes with them.
Asked if he considers kissing as his love expression, Joshua said, "Yes, Tito Boy. Ako kasi, love language ko ay physical touch. First ko 'yun, ang physical touch, and then importante sa akin 'yung naididikit ko 'yung kamay ko, nahahawakan ko siya."
Unbreak My Heart premieres on May 26 on GMA Network and will streamed through iWantTFC and Viu.
