Puey Quiñones opens the Goldenberg Fashion Series

Fashion with a dash of history. That was the double treat when we watched the show of Puey Quiñones, which marks the start of a fashion series slated at the Goldenberg Mansion.

This structure in the neighborhood of Malacañang Palace has a storied charm. Used in the 1800s by Spanish Navy officials, it became the residence of Gov. Gen. Arthur MacArthur in 1896. After a renovation by Lindy Locsin, the Goldenberg Mansion was used as a guesthouse for visiting dignitaries like Indira Gandhi, the King and Queen of Spain, Canada’s Pierre Trudeau and Van Cliburn. Recently, it was renovated again under the watch of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who has a vision for repurposing it. Aside from housing antiques and art, the Goldenberg would be a fine venue to present the collections of Philippine fashion designers. 

“I am honored to be the first designer for this series,” says Puey. “And I am grateful to the First Lady for supporting the fashion industry with the aim also of highlighting local textiles.” The show’s production team is headed by Patrick Rosas and Michael Salientes, with Robby Carmona as director.

Puey showed his beautiful collection of local but global clothes, which are eye-stoppers for his Manila, as well as Los Angeles, clientele.

He surprised the audience with the appearance of guest models like Richard Gomez, Small Laude, Kevin Tan and wife Michelle, PAL president Capt. Stanley Ng, Marga Nograles and Aimee Romualdez Marcos, who we remember as Little Aimee.

Fashion, history and art at the Goldenberg Mansion. Perhaps it will usher in a golden age.
