LOOK: Kate Middleton wears a floral headpiece to the King's coronation
Mom-and-daughter duo Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte wore matching silver flower crowns at King Charles' coronation ceremony.
The Princess of Wales and her daughter opted for a floral headpiece by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen instead of a custom tiara while attending the historic occasion at the Westminster Abbey. They also wore similar Alexander McQueen white dresses.
Explaining the importance of tiaras, Lauren Kiehna of The Court Jeweller told PEOPLE that times may have changed now that Kate chose to wear a headpiece.
"Tiaras were worn by nearly every royal lady at the Queen's coronation in 1953, as well lots of aristocratic women but times have certainly changed in 70 years," she said.
Unlike Charlotte, Kate, however, wore a red and blue formal mantel on top of her ivory silk crepe dress. She also wore pearl and diamond earrings that were originally worn by Princess Diana.
For her jewels, the Princess chose to sport her late grandmother-in-law's three strand necklace—George VI Festoon Necklace—with 105 loose collet-set diamonds.
