This new digital marketplace feature lets you buy and sell preloved authentic sneakers
Preloved shopping has always been a no-fail option for the eco-conscious. As more shoppers try to consume less, the resale market has seen a continuing growth with over "tens of millions of secondhand transactions," according to Carousell.
While clothes and bags are the most likely to sell, buying sneakers can be tricky. With a variety of options out there, there's always that fear about getting duped from buying fakes.
Now, looking for that covetable Yeezys and other old and new releases is just a click away as Ox Street, a buy-and-sell community for the sneakerheads in Asia, adds a “Used” feature to their site. Their latest offering "allows authenticated buying and selling of used and b-grade sneakers across Asia Pacific."
Ox Street CEO Gijs Verheijke pointed out that the new feature will give preloved sneakers a chance to be worn again.
“The used segment is criminally underserved. Sneakers are meant to be worn, but us sneakerheads tend to accumulate too many pairs to constantly wear all of them,” said Verheijke.
“Through Used, we are saving millions of pairs of great sneakers from a slow death at the bottom shelf of someone’s closet. In doing so, we’re also really excited to see the range of limited edition and vintage sneakers making their way back onto the marketplace.”
Ox Street’s data showed their buyers’ notable preference for second hand sneakers due to inclusive prices. On average, shoes that were listed as “used” were priced 30% lower than Brand New, Dead Stock (BNDS) shoes.
Alongside Ox Street’s launch of the new feature, co-founder and CEO of Carousell Group Quek Siu Rui said that Carousell has allowed numerous secondhand transactions and managed to encourage users to buy and sell preloved items.
“Looming environmental changes and over-consumption have made our mission more relevant than ever,” said Rui.
“The latest Used feature on Ox Street will definitely supercharge the recommerce trend in the region as a market leader in sneakers, and encourage more people to consider secondhand as their first choice.”
To remedy any of their buyers’ concern for purchasing fake sneakers, Ox Street ensures their marketplace as a safe place for authenticated transactions by handling the end-to-end process for their Used feature. Ox Street will authenticate all products being sold through their digital marketplace and handle all payment and shipping processes between their buyers and sellers.
More than two weeks ago, Ox Street opened a soft launch for their Used feature, and has since listed more than a thousand secondhand sneakers up for grabs on their platform.
