You can buy the 'Agila' Barong Tagalog that Team Philippines wore to the 31st SEA Games for P20,000
Heads up: Fans can snag their own Francis Libiran Barong Tagalog similar to the ones worn by the Filipino athletes during the 31st SEA Games opening ceremony for P20,000.
For the second time, Francis Libiran has been chosen to be the official designer for the parade uniforms of the Team Philippines. The opening ceremony, which happened last May 12 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, was attended by 30 athletes and officials including Olympic pole vaulter EJ Obiena as the country’s flag bearer.
In a press release, the Filipino fashion designer shared that he is "ecstatic" for the opportunity.
“Having the opportunity to design for Team Philippines for the second time, this time, for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi is beyond exciting. I’m ecstatic to once again dress our incredible athletes with my design. I have always been passionate about fusing my own design flare with our culture,” Libiran said.
The Barong Tagalog, which features an embroidered picture of an eagle on the left sleeve and a blue and red band across the same side, is named 'Agila.'
"I have thought of featuring the magnificent and soaring Philippine Eagle as the focal point of the Barong. I also made use of Philippine fibers and materials which beautifully highlight my signature art deco embroidery,” he added.
The Francis Libiran Agila Barong Tagalog will be available for pre-order via their official website, stores, and social media accounts. It retails for P20,000 each.
