LIST: Christmas outfit themes if you want to ditch the usual red and green motif

Published Dec 10, 2023 4:02 pm

With holiday parties filling our calendars, have you decided on your outfit yet?

Apart from looking forward to the most awaited catch-up with your friends, one of the best ways to create a memorable Christmas affair is a fun outfit theme; and if you’re a fashionista, you know for sure that a good outfit plays a significant part in making a Christmas that’s merry and bright.

If you want to skip the good ol’ red and green fashion motif (or the ugly Christmas sweaters), PhilSTAR L!fe lists alternative themes you can try at your parties this holiday season.

Have a merry and fancy Christmas in a red and gold outfit motif. If you don’t feel like completely shying away from red hues, you can make it different instead by pairing it with any gold staple or accessories. You may opt for a red piece in silk fabric and pair it with subtle gold jewelry, or vice versa. Now is the best time to use that mix-and-match skills!

Literally like Christmas

If you want to truly stand out in the wackiest way possible, why not dress together as a Christmas symbol? This theme gives you the freedom to interpret Christmas—from dressing up as a classic Christmas ball, little drummer boy, and cute plushie reindeer, to being the star of the night (literally). Or you can transform yourself into a Christmas tree, by wearing a green feathered dress or a green tulle dress.

Dress like your favorite Christmas icons

Who says you can only channel your favorite character on Halloween? Create a party to remember by having a goofy Christmas; specifically dressing up as your favorite holiday icons.

There's of course, the sweet yet flirty little red Santa dresses a la The Plastics, a Grinch-inspired outfit, or for Pinoys, dress up in a nice suit with a gold necktie like Jose Mari Chan (don't forget to be ready to sing his famous carols)!

Everything fluffy and fuzzy

For something easy, you may opt for a cozy Christmas instead and wear anything fluffy or fuzzy staples. Perfect for those who want to have a fun yet low-key party. Catch up with your friends and/or family wearing your comfiest ensemble while sipping a warm coffee, or a really good cocktails.

Have a K-pop-inspired Christmas

If you don’t have the luxury of time and moolah to curate outfits in new themes, you can still make the most out of your red or green ensembles by wearing K-pop-inspired fits. Dance the night away or sing your hearts out at your K-pop-themed party!

Some of the easiest outfits to copy is EXO’s green sweater in their album, Miracles in December, just pair it with a cute black ribbon and suspenders. You can also copy NMIXX's nostalgic Y2K theme in their Funky Glitter Christmas music video, or wear Girl’s Generation-TTS (Tiffany, Taeyeon, and Seohyun)-inspired chic fit in a blue cardigan paired with a short skirt and topped with a beret.
