Jennifer Coolidge, everyone's hero, gets superpowered in 'W Magazine' photo shoot
These gays, she's trying to murder them!
Jennifer Coolidge stars on the cover of W Magazine's final Directors Issue cover as the muse of Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as the "Daniels," the directors who made the Oscar frontrunner Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The corresponding photoshoot paid homage to the Japanese Tokusatsu film genre, featuring the distinct aesthetic of live-action, sci-fi and fantasy media that utilize special effects.
"Inarticulately grateful for this embarrassment of riches. When the extraordinary Daniels first called and presented their vision for this shoot...I thought they had the wrong muse (or certainly not their first choice for this amazing honor!)," said the White Lotus star.
Shirley Kurata, responsible for costume design, took on her "dream job" to style Coolidge. The results are layout after layout of maximalist looks defined by color blocking and over-the-top silhouettes.
The actress for her cover attire wore a Bad Binch TongTong by Terrence Zhou custom bow dress, MAM headpiece, Amina Muaddi earrings, Dollybaby ring, Proenza Schouler shoes, and the stylist’s own gloves.
"How unbelievably cool are these photos?! Thank you to them, photographer [Lenne Chai], [Sara Moonves], and the entire team at W for letting me live out my Godzilla/Rita Repulsa fantasy!" Coolidge posted.
The Daniels were likewise awestruck by the star that is Coolidge. "Tokusatsu/sentai/kaiju stories were always inspiring to us as kids because of how tangible it all felt. Can’t believe we got to finally play in that world with the one and only Jennifer Coolidge," Kwan posted.
The past year has been a banner one for Coolidge, who swept the Emmys, Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for her universally acclaimed performance as the emotionally unstable Tanya McQuoid on HBO's White Lotus.
The Daniels are just as iconic themselves, recently making SAG history with four wins. W Magazine said the other half of its "powerful pairing" is "widely predicted to take home the Oscar for Best Picture," another boost in their so-far successful Academy Awards campaign for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
W's other Directors Issue covers involved Steven Spielberg directing and photographing Michelle Williams and Paul Dano for the first cover; as well as Tár director Todd Field shooting Danielle Deadwyler for the second.
