Fil-Am 'Barbie' Ana Cruz Kayne sports a terno at LA premiere
"Terno goes to Hollywood."
Filipino American actress Ana Cruz Kayne, who plays Supreme Court Justice Barbie in the much-awaited Greta Gerwig film, wore a terno to the world premiere of Barbie in LA.
According to Filipino designer Dennis Lustico, Ana "specifically requested to wear something Filipino for the big day." Her stylist, Pj Pascual, also helped in collaborating with the design. The result is a pink butterfly-sleeved top to represent the Philippines and a Herve Leger fringe dress to honor Ana's American roots.
"Lastly, pink is Barbie," wrote Pj.
"Maraming salamat to my dream team for sending me down the pink carpet feeling like my own snatched fairy godmother. Special thanks to Dennis Lustico for the dreamiest balintawak," Ana wrote on Instagram, sharing pictures from the premiere.
In the film, Ana also wore a traditional butterfly outfit with the help of costume designer Jacqueline Durran.
Ana said wearing it "felt like I was honoring my family" and their Filipino heritage.
"I don't know how they came up with it so fast, but it felt so special and so unique to my Barbie," Ana told Messenger. "And so that was my favorite outfit, I would say my favorite part of Barbie."
Ana is best known for her performances in Little Women, Jerry & Marge Go Large, and Painkiller.
Barbie will premiere in Philippine cinemas on July 19.
