Charo Santos shares throwback photos from her beauty queen days
Actress and media executive Charo Santos unveiled a collection of her beauty queen photos from almost five decades ago, igniting a wave of nostalgia among her fans.
On Instagram, the Batang Quiapo star shared a carousel featuring photos from 1969 when she was hailed as Miss Calapan. She said she was "so glad" she could keep these photos.
"A little throwback on my days as Ms. Calapan 1969-70, I am flooded with memories of a time when everything felt possible," the caption read.
"From representing my town and meeting new people, each moment was a story in itself. The late Robert Arevalo and his better-half Ms. Barbara Perez came to Calapan to crown me," she added.
In her beauty queen era
Before becoming a media executive, Charo was already an accomplished beauty queen, encouraged by her mom, Nora Navarro-Santos, and dad, Winifredo Santos.
Aside from being Miss Calapan, she also bagged titles such as Manila's Five Prettiest, Miss Green Race 1974, and Miss Baron Travel Girl in 1976.
"Kasi sa probinsya ay magkakakilala lahat. They would always approach my mom and my dad and ask,'Uy puwede ba iyong mga dalagita mong anak isali natin? Isa ako sa mga paborito niyang isinasali," the veteran actress explained in an interview with Toni Gonzaga.
When asked if she saw herself as a beauty queen back then, Charo said, "No, I was never conscious of my beauty. It was never about my beauty or myself. It was more like I was being an obedient daughter."
Charo was the former CEO of ABS-CBN Corporation. She hosted the longest-running television drama anthology in Asia, Maalaala Mo Kaya.
Currently, she portrays Tindeng, the grandmother of Tanggol (Coco Martin), in FPJ's Batang Quiapo.
