LOOK: Balenciaga drops towel skirt worth over P50,000
Would you buy a towel skirt for over P50,000?
Balenciaga just dropped a new staple that will make you look fresh out of the bath—literally. The new unisex towel skirt is one of the hot drops from its Spring 2024 collection, including other odd ensembles like exaggerated trench coats and fancy bathrobes.
The towel skirt features a mid-waist fit like the usual household towel, but unlike the latter, it will fit right into your waist with its two buttons and adjustable belt that also has a buckle inside. There's no need to worry about wardrobe malfunctions when you're in it.
Just like usual towels, this knee-length towel is made from 100% terry cotton crafted in Italy and is best to be dry-cleaned. The luxury brand is offering it in small and medium sizes.
For a fancy touch, a Balenciaga logo is embroidered tone-on-tone at the front, and you can pre-order yours at a whopping price of $925 (over P50,000).
Social media users and brands, including Swedish furnishing line IKEA, were quick to poke fun at its odd design.
"[B]alenciaga is just trolling humanity," a social media user quipped.

"Balenciaga is just a social experiment at this point," another one wrote.
IKEA, meanwhile, joined in the fun by giving a look at its own take on the towel skirt on Instagram. Dubbed VINARN, the item—which they jokingly called a "2024 Spring fashion essential"—costs $16 (almost P900).
Balenciaga has been a hot topic for its odd fashion ensembles through the years. In 2022 alone, it released a garbage pouch worth nearly P100,000 as well as a shoelace earring that cost over P14,000.
