Single and loving it: Local celebs who are thriving after their breakup
In the midst of the KathNiels, BeaDoms, and ArDubs of the world, there are local celebrities who are single and loving it.
This 11-11 is not only a time for the hottest sales of the year, but also a day to celebrate and embrace singlehood. After all, being single is not the end of the world—just take it from these Pinoy personalities, who after getting their hearts broken, are thriving on their own.
Maxene Magalona
In October, Maxene Magalona opened up about the perks of singlehood, seemingly confirming her separation from husband Rob Mananquil.
"No date? No problem!" she said. "Perks of being single and childless: you have full control of your schedule. You can literally do anything you want on any day at whatever time.
"I watch movies in the cinema alone, take myself out on dates, and go on long solo drives especially when my vibration is low... Life is all about perspective. Do you see your glass half empty or half full? I see mine overflowing."
Moira de la Torre
After her split from husband Jason Hernandez, Moira dela Torre continues to shine and grow her music career. In true post-breakup fashion, she even got a new look to mark her new era.
Moira also released a new single called Babalik Sa'Yo in September but clarified that it wasn't about her ex. She's set to kick off a world tour in 2023 beginning in Araneta Coliseum in February.
Janella Salvador
Although they have been broken up for almost a year, Janella Salvador and Markus Paterson announced their split on Sept. 10 amid rumors. A week before that, Janella opened up about being a single mom to their two-year-old son Jude.
“Talagang nilalaban ko ‘yun [being a single mom]. At the end of the day, alam kong kaya ko naman siya. As much as I love the people around me who are always there to help me, I always want to know na kaya kong gawin. I don’t want it to sound bad kasi, pero I can rely on myself na hindi ko kailangang humingi ng tulong sa iba,” she said.
Currently, the actress is starring as Regina Vanguardia, a.k.a. Valentina, in Darna.
Kylie Verzosa
After her breakup with Jake Cuenca, Miss International Kylie Verzosa said that she'll be giving her heart a break. "Pahinga muna 'yung puso, pahinga muna. Work muna," she said.
Asked about advice for people going through a breakup, she said, "Take it one day at a time. Time will heal all wounds."
And focus on work she did. Kylie won a Best Actress award at the Distinctive International Arab Festivals in Dubai for her performance in The Housemaid. She also went daring, turning up the temperature as Tanduay's 2023 calendar girl.
Barbie Imperial
Barbie Imperial called it quits with Diego Loyzaga earlier in the year and she couldn't be happier now as a single woman.
"Sobrang happy ako about my life. Finally, naka-move on na ako. I'm very happy with my life now," she said in a June interview.
"I'm not dating anyone. Wala, as in happy lang na ako lang," Barbie added. "My happiness right now, it's very peaceful. Like before kasi, after a breakup, parang ang bilis ko mag-date. But now, mas iba pala 'yung happiness kapag hindi mo siya nakukuha sa ibang tao."
