Liza Soberano confirms safety amid Los Angeles fires
Liza Soberano assured fans that she's safe amid the Los Angeles wildfire.
"Thank you to everyone who checked in on me," Soberano said in an Instagram Story on Jan. 9, sharing a photo of the fires. "I'm okay."
She noted that she's not in Los Angeles "as of the moment."
"But my heart goes out to all of my friends in LA. Praying for everyone's safety," she said, with a white heart emoji.
Los Angeles was besieged by out-of-control blazes burning on multiple fronts, with Hollywood events including a glitzy awards show and a Pamela Anderson film premiere canceled as firefighters battled nearby flames whipped up by hurricane-force winds.
Hundreds of homes were destroyed in the swanky Pacific Palisades area, a favorite spot for celebrities where multimillion-dollar houses nestle on beautiful hillsides, while another inferno devastated parts of Altadena, to the east.
A-list actors, musicians, and other celebrities were among the tens of thousands affected.
Several major Hollywood events were abruptly called off due to the disaster, including the annual Critics Choice Awards gala, which honors the year's best in film and television and is attended by dozens. It was moved from Jan. 12 to Jan. 26.
Filming of Los Angeles shows like Grey's Anatomy, Hacks, and Jimmy Kimmel Live were paused, while the Universal Studios theme park was closed for the day due to the extreme winds and fire conditions.
Soberano was born in California and relocated to Quezon City. She started her showbiz career with a television debut in Wansapanataym in 2011. Her breakthrough role came in the second season of Got to Believe in 2014. She was then paired with Enrique Gil for Forevermore, creating the popular LizQuen love team that will dominate more movies and teleseryes. They would eventually enter a relationship though only going public about their status in 2019. Their last project was Make It with You in 2020. They have since taken separate career paths.
Soberano moved to Los Angeles in 2022 to pursue a career in Hollywood. She starred in the February 2024 comedy horror Frankenstein alongside Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse. With her appearance in the movie, she became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. In October, she joined the entertainment company WILD, which is based in Singapore and has offices in South Korea. She was previously under James Reid's Careless. (with reports from AFP)
