Liam Payne to leave millions of assets to only son after his death—reports
Liam Payne is reported to be leaving his son, Bear, a substantial portion of his wealth in his will.
According to reports by international outlets Sky News and Daily Mail, the singer has made more than AUD$109 million (P4 billion) worth of assets set to be inherited by his only child, Bear, his son from his relationship with Cheryl Cole.
Sky News reported that Liam, who rose to stardom at age 16 as part of the global boy group One Direction, created a multi-million-dollar asset portfolio through his music career and endorsements, including his campaign with German brand Hugo Boss in 2019 and 2020.
In 2015, he bought a mansion in Calabasas, California, nestled in the hills above Malibu. He then decided to sell it in 2018 saying it was “haunted.” The property was sold to singer Halsey in 2021 for $10 million (over P575 million), as per a Business Insider report. He also sold his property in Surrey, United Kingdom after his split with Cheryl.
In June 2021, Liam launched a “Lonely Bug” non-fungible token (NFT) digital artwork collection, which became a hit.
Last month, he and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy moved into a Spanish-style mansion in South Florida, which they rented for around $9,500 monthly (P547,000).
Liam and Cheryl became parents to their son, Bear, in March 2017, and have chosen to keep him out of the public eye.
He first talked about giving all his fortune to his only child, Bear, during his guest appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast in 2022.
“My life now is his, my money is his,” he said.
“I actually have got several companies that are up and running that I know he can run if he wants to. And if (he) wants to sell them, he can sell them; if he wants to run them, he can run them. That’s his choice."
He added that he liked "to think ahead" even though his son was just five years old at that time.
Liam fell to his death from his hotel window in Buenos Aires in Argentina on Oct. 16 (Oct. 17, Manila time). He was 31.
As per the preliminary autopsy report, the singer died due to polytrauma or several traumatic injuries and internal and external hemorrhage.
No evidence of foul play was found, they noted, adding that the way Liam landed on the ground "did not adopt a reflex posture to protect himself."
He was part of One Direction along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan. It was formed in 2010 and became known for various hits such as What Makes You Beautiful, Little Things, and Best Song Ever, among others.
