Robin Padilla jokes about having another 'girlfriend' with wife Mariel Padilla
Senator Robin Padilla and his wife Mariel Padilla made rounds on social media after the former threw a joke about committing to another woman.
Mariel shared screenshots of their conversation on Facebook, asking the social media users, "What if sabihin ng asawa mo may girlfriend siya? Ano reaction mo?"
In their messages, Robin sent a photo of him while staying in Cebu for work. He then told his wife that he had something important to say.
"Babae babe, naglabas na 'yung babae ng ebidensya," the actor-turned-senator wrote. "Girlfriend ko babe, naglabas na ng ebidensya kahapon. Alam na ng buong mundo."
"Show me," Mariel replied.
Eventually, Robin revealed that the girl she was referring to was pop superstar Taylor Swift, whose latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, included a song titled Robin.
"Inamin na ni Taylor Swift ang aming relasyon sa pamamagitan ng kanta," he said, "Sorry babe, sorry babe, nagalit ka ba?"
Mariel responded, "Never, you are cute, I miss you. 'Wag ka magkaka-girlfriend, mamatay ako."
In case you didn't know, Taylor released her 11th studio, The Tortured Poets Department, on Friday, April 19. One of the fifteen extra tracks in the second section of the album is a piano ballad called Robin, in which Taylor references puberty and uses animal imagery.
Social media users react
Social media users then found the joke "sweet" and "touching," especially with the senator referring to Taylor's song as a prank joke.
"Taylor made her do it!! It's a praaaaank!!" a Facebook user commented.
"So cute. Ang bibo mo talaga Sen. Robin. Pati ako kinabahan sa umpisa!!" another one said.
Other users find Mariel's replies funny when they seemingly hear the latter's iconic voice when reading it.
"A conversation I can hear. So weird, my imagination is really something."
"Bakit parang naging kaboses ko si Mariel Rodriguez Padillahabang binabasa ko."
'It's natural for men to cheat'
Earlier in 2021, Robin was caught in a cheating rumor with model Mocha Uson, who was said to be pregnant. However, the model-singer eventually brushed off the rumors through a social media post showing a video of her working out with her belly exposed.
"BUNTIS DAW AKO KAY ROBIN? Wala pong katotohanan yang tsismis na yan. Napakabait po nung tao. Nakakahiya naman kay idol Robin at Mariel,” she wrote in her caption.
Meanwhile, in July 2021, the 54-year-old lawmaker also drew flak on social media following his cheating remarks in an interview with Ogie Diaz as he confirmed his daughter Kylie's breakup with husband Aljur Abrenica following the latter's alleged infidelity.
Robin said he has nothing against it, declaring "it's natural for men to cheat" if there's temptation around.
"Tsaka sa panahon ngayon, huwag tayong maglokohan, pare. Di ako naniniwala na merong lalaki na makakatanggi sa tukso."
He then clarified the matter, saying he had just said it based on his experience.
"Ako, e, nagsasalita sa aking experience. Experience 'yon nung ako ay nasa tugatog ng aking kasikatan,” he explained. "Ang tukso ay reyalidad. Kasama sa every day life."
Asked if he ever cheated during his more than a decade-long relationship with his wife, Robin candidly said, "Pinapayagan mo naman ako tumingin-tingin." Then seriously remarked, "Hindi lahat ng tukso ibig sabihin you fell for it."
In August 2010, Robin and Mariel tied the knot in India after meeting on the set of Willie Revillame's show Wowowee, where Mariel was a host. They share two children, Gabriela and Isabella, after suffering two miscarriages.
Robin has four more children, with his former wife Liezl Sicangco, namely, Zhireleen, Ali, Kylie, and Queenie.
