'The Glory' star Kim Gun Woo reveals he owed his agency money before the hit K-drama series
South Korean actor Kim Gun Woo of hit Korean drama series The Glory bared that he owed his agency money before the show.
Korean entertainment website Allkpop reported that though Kim had savings from past acting stints, he had "to make ends meet." He said his future earnings then served as collateral.
"I've paid them back now," he told the press during an end-of-the-show interview on March 23.
The Glory revolves around a woman named Moon Dong-eun who suffered bullying and physical abuse in high school. She has since dedicated her life to exacting revenge against her bullies and their accomplices.
Kim portrayed Son Myeong-o, a member of the group that bullied Moon. In school, he served as his group's errand boy and also sold drugs.
Kim made his K-drama debut in Fight For My Way in 2017. He also starred in Live, My Secret Terrius, Less Than Evil, Catch the Ghost, and Record of Youth.
But it was in The Glory that he had his break.
Kim thanked everyone who has supported his work ever since as well as new ones who discovered him through his latest role.
"There are much more people who recognize me in public," he said. "I have many more followers on social media as well," noting he used to have just around 2,000.
His Instagram account has over 182,000 followers to date.
The Glory Part 1 premiered on Netflix last Dec. 30, while Part 2 dropped on March 10.
