Chito Miranda says wife Neri Naig's P1,000 weekly meal plan had 'proper costing'

Chito Miranda is standing by his wife Neri Naig Miranda following her P1,000 weekly meal plan that has since been mired in controversy due to how "unrealistic" it is.

On his Instagram account, the Parokya ni Edgar lead singer penned a lengthy statement defending Neri from the "cruel world" who bashed her meal plan without fully knowing why she came up with the list.

Explaining how the plan came to be, Chito explained that his entrepreneur wife had initially thought of a weekly meal plan for a family of two to four. Instead of only P1,000, the budget for that list was P2,000.

"It was mostly for fun, but she also thought that it can be useful for those who might want to use it as a guide," Chito wrote. "Meals were cheap but relatively healthy and consisted mostly of vegetables. [S]he did the math."

"She also reminded those who will be using her meal plan to add portions as needed, depending on their family's size and appetite. Sinabi niya din na the meal plan was merely a guide which they could use as a starting point," he continued.

While this is so, Chito admitted that the meal plan wasn't the same one they followed as they had more than 10 people in their household and most of them were carnivorous.

After the P2,000 meal plan became a big hit with her followers, Neri decided to come up with another one with only a budget of P1,000 that was "intended for those who already knew what she was doing."

"It was soon picked up by those who knew nothing of what she was doing, and was instantly bashed for it," Chito wrote.

"Grabe diba? Naisip lang naman ng asawa ko na baka sakaling makatulong yung meal plan niya sa mga tao that might find it useful, na-bash pa sya ng mga taong hindi naman nakasubaybay kung bakit ginagawa niya yung meal plan. What a cruel, cruel world," he added.

The singer-songwriter shared that Neri is currently fixing her list to make it more detailed and helpful.

Neri's now-deleted Facebook post contained a long list of ingredients and the dishes you can make out of them per day, with leftovers allotted for dinners. The post quickly went viral, with most comments pointing out how the plan was "unrealistic" and "out of touch" with the economic situation in the Philippines.

PhilSTAR L!fe also tested the plan in both a public market and a grocery store to see if it is attainable. In both situations, the purchase cost exceeded the allotted P1,000 budget.
