Selena Gomez to kidney donor Francia Raisa: ‘No matter where life takes us, I love you’
Selena Gomez penned a sweet message for her kidney donor and longtime friend Francia Raisa as the latter marked her 35th birthday.
“Happiest of birthdays to this special human being. No matter where life takes us, I love you,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday, July 27.
This comes less than a year after they had a falling-out in public due to Selena’s comments in her November 2022 interview with Rolling Stone. Opening up about not being able to “fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities,” the singer noted that her “only friend in the industry” is Taylor Swift.
Francia took issue with what the Only Murders in the Building star said and commented “interesting” on an Instagram post with the exact quote. She deleted it later on.
Addressing the issue in the comment section of a TikTok video, which showed proof that Francia is no longer following the international star on Instagram, Selena wrote: “Sorry, I didn’t mention every person I know.”
Selena revealed she had a kidney transplant from Francia in September 2017 due to lupus-related organ damage.
In March this year, the singer said on Apple TV+'s documentary series Dear... that she’s “in debt” to Francia for her love and compassion.
"My best friend, her name is Francia. She said, 'No, I am absolutely getting tested,'" she recalled as she spoke about her journey with an autoimmune disease. "And within three days, she went to get tested, and she was a match. It was one of those moments where I felt watched over. I know I was so so so lucky."
"I will never ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia. The idea of someone not even second-guessing to be a donor was unbelievably overwhelming,” she added.
