Selena Gomez planned to adopt, become single parent before meeting Benny Blanco
Selena Gomez has opened up on how she was ready to adopt and become a single mother, but she changed her mind when she met and fell in love with her boyfriend Benny Blanco.
In an interview with TIME Magazine, the actress and singer discussed how she previously saw herself embracing single parenthood if she still hadn't met the right person several years from now.
"I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it," Selena said.
Her last official relationship was with Justin Bieber, who she had been on and off with before they ultimately split come March 2018. Selena has since been romantically linked to numerous celebrities such as Niall Horan, Drew Taggart, and Zayn Malik, but nothing was made official.
Selena, who is now 31 years old, shared with the news outlet, "I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone."
But then Benny came into her life, and she describes her romance with him as something that "just happens when you least expect it."
At the start, Selena only saw the record producer and songwriter as a friend, and she even asked him if he knew anyone he could set her up with. But she realized her feelings for him when he brought her to meet his friend at a birthday party.
The pop icon also addressed Benny's recent interview with Howard Stern on how he sees himself marrying her and having children.
"He can’t lie to save his life. If he’s asked a question, he’ll answer it," Selena said.
She went on that she is more cautious when it comes to these types of topics as she knows what people can do to those she loves.
"My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life. But he has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him," Selena said.
"It’s really impressive, and I just cherish every moment with him. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon," she continued.
The actress recently starred in the musical crime comedy film Emilia Pérez, which premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Her upcoming appearances include the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building as well as the sequel series to Wizards of Waverly Place.
