Jeremy Renner says his eye popped out during snow plow accident: 'Very, very bad way to start the year'

Jeremy Renner recalled how his eye popped out during his snow plow accident that took place on New Year's Day.

The Hawkeye star recently showed up on Jimmy Kimmel Live with a cane as he recounted the horrific experience that left him critically injured for months.

Kimmel kicked off the episode by telling Renner: “If there was any question as to who the toughest Avenger is, that’s settled now, right?” The actor, however, was quick to say it’s still Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow in the Avengers film series.

Looking back, Renner jokingly described the snow plow as a “giant cookie roller,” noting that he got “pretty lucky” because none of his organs "got messed up" after the incident.

"It just missed every vertebrae, didn't hit any organs, didn't hit my brain, didn't swell, nothing like that. My eye did pop out, that's weird," the 52-year-old actor said. "But I got pretty lucky that none of my organs got messed up. It pierced my liver but that wasn't dangerous."

Kimmel asked if he had a collapsed lung, to which Renner said: "Yeah, that's fine. I've got another one.”

The actor was hospitalized for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries at the start of January after his Sno-Cat, a large snow plow that weighs at least 14,330 pounds, ran him over. The actor was trying to help a family member out of the snow near his home in Lake Tahoe when the Sno-Cat crushed him. Renner later announced that he damaged over 30 bones in the collision

While he recalled the accident light-heartedly on Kimmel's show, Renner said that it was "a very, very bad way to start the year" as he was "in a ton of pain."

Near the end of his interview, the actor likened his recovery process to fulfilling a New Year’s resolution: “I did drop like 20 pounds, I quit smoking—now that’s easy, easiest way to quit smoking," he said, adding that he's really happy to be alive.
