Chito Miranda, Neri Naig consider 'tamang inggit' as one of the keys to their financial success
Relationship goals! As Chito Miranda and Neri Naig have both made a name for themselves in the showbiz industry, the couple has also made it big in business.
The pair now owns a number of eateries, a company that makes bedding and sleepwear, a salon, and even a rest house that's up for rent. In addition, Neri and Chito also have their own convenience shop, tuyo business, and pharmacy.
On the episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho aired on August 13, the couple shared their secrets to being financially successful as Soho visited one of Neri and Chito’s restaurants in Tagaytay.
Neri openly said that she considers "tamang inggit" as one of their secrets to success, as having that mindset motivates her to work hard to achieve what she sets her eyes on.
The 37-year-old actress explained, “Lagi kong sinasabi sa mga ibang nagtatanong sa akin, Tamang inggit… 'pag nakita ko, ‘Gusto ko niyan.’”
She added that the right way to practice this mindset is by looking at others as inspiration rather than competition. “Dapat gayahin mo kung paano," she noted.
Neri later revealed that her "tamang inggit" mindset was one she developed from growing up in a humble household. She explained, “Saan ba ako ipinanganak? Sa papag lang -- 'yung parang linoleum lang. Lumaki ako sa hirap."
"Pero may pangarap ako," she continued. "'Yung nanay ko, inalis kami doon sa lugar na 'yon. Pinag-aral kami kahit hirap na hirap, kahit promissory note lagi.”
Chito added, "Never focus on your disadvantages, and don’t focus on other people’s advantages. Tamang inggit. Find inspiration and use it as your guide."
And although she has Parokya ni Edgar's frontman as her husband, Neri clarified that all her earnings were results of her own hard work.
"Dine-discredit mo 'yung mga tao like ako, feeling nila dahil ako successful because of Chito. Hindi. Magkaiba pa nga po kami ng pera.”
“Natuto ako kay Chito, ‘Kung ano yung pera mo, itabi mo 'yan. Kapag may sobra na, then okay, puwede na."
Chito, meanwhile, claimed the money he's been investing came from his own earnings from gigs with his band.
“What I did with my money was instead of spending it, I just invested it and invested it,” he said.
Having multiple sources of income
During the interview, Chito highlighted the importance of finding ways to have multiple sources of income instead of setting with just one. He said that he bought properties he could rent out in order for him to have a passive income even though he is busy with his music career.
“Huwag ninyo isusugal lahat sa isa lang,” Chito said. “Kumbaga sa sampu na 'yun, kung may mag-fail man na lima, may lima ka naman na iba, totally different.”
Neri, for her part, encourages fellow wives and mothers to have their own source of income instead of just relying on the one provided by their husband.
“Just in case may mangyari, huwag naman sana, magloko si mister, at least hindi 'yung mahihirapan kang bumangon uli," she said. "Kailangan may plano ka, and non-stop learning," she added.
Same as most entrepreneurs, the couple had their own experiences of losses too. What kept them going is sticking to their goal to grow their current funds.
“Ang daming sablay din talaga,” Chito said. “When we get money, the game is how to make more money.”
In addition to working hard, the lead musician stressed the value of "making the right decisions and having the right people to do it."
"'Yung mga taong kasama ninyo hindi dapat kayo pagandahan ng kotse," he said.
"Always team up with smart people. Hang out with people who know what they're doing," Chito added.
