'Teletubbies' sun baby Jess Smith welcomes first child
Did you know that the iconic sun baby in Teletubbies is now a mom?
Jess Smith, the actress behind the sun in the children’s television show, posted a mirror shot with her first baby with partner Ricky Latham on Instagram on Saturday, March 9.
“Believe it or not, she has started smiling,” she wrote in the caption with a sun emoji.
According to an E! News report on Thursday, March 8, she first gave a glimpse of her daughter in January, sharing a photo of her hand with the caption, "One whole week of you.”
In the same month, she shared a photo of her partner carrying their daughter in the hospital hallway. “12 days in our lives, 7 days at home, 2 very lucky parents,” she captioned her post, where she also revealed their daughter’s name, Poppy Rae Latham.
Jess announced her pregnancy in October 2023, sharing a sonogram with the caption, “When two becomes three.”
Delighted social media users sent their messages of love and support.
“Yay. The sun babies baby! Congratulations,” a social media user wrote.
“Congratulations! Thanks for the childhood memories!” one commented.

As stated on her IMDb page, Jess played the sun baby when she was nine months old. She was part of the much-loved kiddie show from 1997 to 2002.
