Vina Morales on broadway debut via 'Here Lies Love': 'Dream come true'
Vina Morales expressed her happiness over finally being able to call herself a "Broadway actor" following her theater debut on Here Lies Love.
The local star talked about her first-ever musical performance in an Instagram post on Sunday, Sept. 24, calling it a "dream come true."
"My Broadway debut was magical. You made it all magical. I am overwhelmed by the love and amazing reviews," she wrote.
"I made it to Broadway! Yeay! A dream come true and another checked on my bucket list," she continued. "Now I can say I am a Broadway actor. To God be the glory."
The Filipino actress expressed her gratitude to the cast and crew for their love and support, and for welcoming her with to the team with open arms. "I can feel it in the room when you raised a welcome toast for me! I was in tears of joy."
She also gave a shoutout to her fans who watched her first show on the Here Lies Love stage. "For those who were calling my name during the show, I can hear you, okay? I am kilig but I can't smile back and wave at you [because] I am in a role character," she added, noting that she got "kilig" over the cheers she got.
Vina is replacing Lea Salonga as Aurora Aquino, the mother of assassinated opposition senator Ninoy Aquino, in Here Lies Love for a limited time. In August, Lea announced she contracted COVID-19, which prompted her decision to "stay away from work" for a while.
The musical narrates the former First Lady Imelda Marcos' rise and fall from power after the EDSA People Power Revolution by transforming the theater "into a dance club where the audience is immersed in the story." It’s directed by Tony and Golden Globe awards recipient Alex Timbers.
