'Reinventing Anna': Anna Sorokin starts NFT collection with hopes to shed 'scammer' image
Anna Sorokin, better known as Anna Delvey, is hoping to rehabilitate her image... with non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Sorokin became known as a "socialite scammer," swindling New York socialites and defrauding banks by pretending she was a rich German heiress before she was arrested in 2017 and convicted in 2019. She grew even more popular as Netflix released a series called Inventing Anna.
But the so-called "Soho Grifter" now hopes to shed this image by launching her own NFT collection.
"I see this first drop as an opportunity to directly connect with my audience and to take charge of the narrative that's been largely out of my control, until now," she stated on a website for the NFTs.
According to NBC News, Sorokin is calling her collection "Reinventing Anna." There will reportedly be 10 minted NFTs with perks including one-on-one phone calls with Sorokin herself.
The collection will also include three "ultra premium" NFTs which will grant holders an in-person meeting with the "socialite scammer."
"I'd love to be given an opportunity for people not just to dismiss me as like a quote-unquote scammer and just see what I'm going to do next," she told the outlet.
Sorokin is currently in the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Orange County Jail after overstaying her visa.
Other celebrities have hopped on the NFT trend, including the likes of Paris Hilton, Grimes, Emily Ratajkowski, Heart Evangelista, Pia Wurtzbach, and more.
NFTs are digital assets representing real-world objects such as art, music, in-game items, and videos. They are bought and sold online, usually with cryptocurrency.
These tokens are typically expensive because they are one-of-a-kind, giving holders exclusive ownership of the asset.
