Is Michelle Yeoh a mother at 61? Actress causes confusion after she posts picture of newborn

Published Jan 02, 2024 6:41 pm

Actress Michelle Yeoh garnered buzz on social media after she posted a picture of a "little miracle."

On her Instagram account, the veteran actress, known for her role in the award-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once, celebrated the new year by posting a picture of her hand holding a newborn child's leg.

In the caption, Michelle wrote, "A little miracle on the first day of 2024. We are so truly blessed… can’t tell you how happy I am for this very, very special bundle of joy."

Michelle didn't specify whether the baby in the picture was hers, causing fans of the 61-year-old actress to assume that she had welcomed her first child with her husband Jean Todt. Celebrities like Sharon Stone and Naomi Campbell even offered their congratulations.

"Mother is mothering for real! OMG congratulations!" one user wrote.

Another one commented, "Congratulations! You are an amazing mom already and your little one is little to have you."

However, minutes later, she later clarified in another post that the newborn is actually the child of her stepson, Nicolas Todt, and his partner.

"Thank you darling Nicolas and Darina for making us the happiest and proudest grandparents! Welcome baby Maxime," she wrote.

Fans still left congratulatory messages on the post.

"Enjoy the grandparenting journey," one wrote.

"[H]appy for you [heart emojis] & the clarification was not necessary," another one said.

Michelle was previously married to Hong Kong business magnate Dickson Poon, but the former couple did not have any children before their separation.

In an interview with You Magazine, Michelle opened up about her struggle to have children. She tried in vitro fertilization (IVF), but it still didn't work out for her.

"I tried IVF, everything. I was desperate. I love kids and saw myself surrounded by them. But there’s only so much you can put your body and mind through. It comes to a stage where you have to accept it, move on and deal with the repercussions," she said.

The actress exchanged vows with Jean, who is a former Ferrari chief executive officer, in July last year after 19 years of being engaged to one another. They were aged 60 and 77 respectively.

According to Michelle, they were busy juggling their many commitments and had no time to prepare the ceremony they wanted.
