ABS-CBN executive Laurenti Dyogi on Liza Soberano: 'Let's just wish her well'

ABS-CBN executive and Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi has made it clear that he has no issue with Liza Soberano pursuing a Hollywood career or making statements about her Kapamilya past.

The Kapamilya head, also known as Direk Lauren, said Liza succeeding abroad would even be good news for ABS-CBN considering she was one of their artists.

"We allow her to explore and aspire for something better for herself. If that meant moving on to somewhere else, moving on to a different territory, let’s just wish her well. Her achievements and accomplishments will also be an accomplishment for us, especially for those people who helped her in the beginning like sila Ogie (Diaz), the Star Magic family who helped her. They will be very happy if Liza attains something that everybody is aspiring, which is global stardom,” Dyogi told the press at the recently concluded official contract signing of pop group HORI7ON with the network.

The director added he knew Liza for being "responsible" during their time working together.

“Hindi naman din naging normal din ‘yung… I think she’s open about it, about her life, about her setup, marami siyang responsibilidad. But just like most of us, hindi din naman unique ‘yung experience ni Liza, eh. Kahit naman ako nung bata ako, I had my responsibility. I’m sure all of you, you have your own responsibility—and opportunities that come to us, choice natin ‘yon," Dyogi said.

He said Liza is probably just undergoing some sort of "quarter-life questioning" after being focused for so long on fulfilling her responsibilities not only as an artist but also as the breadwinner of her family.

"Liza is lucky enough to have opportunities presented to her na hindi nape-present sa karamihan na nangangarap na mapabuti ang buhay ng kanilang pamilya, sarili nila. I think because Liza is also still in her first quarter of one hundred years of life, so siguro nagka-quarter life questioning siya," Dyogi said.

Direk Lauren served as executive producer of Forevermore, which starred Liza and Enrique Gil as the love team LizQuen, in 2014. This was the same year the couple started dating, but they only revealed their relationship to the public in 2019.

Liza has been a hot topic online since her viral This is Me vlog, where she bared her true feelings about her showbiz career as a whole, including the concept of love teams. She has since gone on interviews with Bea Alonzo and Boy Abunda, each time gaining renewed public interest with her controversial statements.
