Carla Abellana on split with Tom Rodriguez: ‘Pain doesn’t disappear overnight’

Carla Abellana opened up about her breakup with her ex-husband Tom Rodriguez.

In a recent interview with GMA news anchor Nelson Canlas, the actress said that it hasn’t completely sunk in that she’s now a divorced woman as it is yet to be recognized in the Philippines. “Dahil ang foreign ng divorce and wala kasi sa atin, hindi pinapractice dito, parang hindi pa siya fully nagsi-sink in. Siguro mas doon pa siya magsi-sink in sa akin ‘pag siguro yung dito na naproseso at dito na maaasikaso at narecognize na siya ng Philippine court.”

When asked if she’s still in pain, Carla quickly responded with: “Oo, definitely. I won’t even hesitate to answer and say ‘Yes, definitely.’”

“Pain kasi doesn’t disappear overnight. Gustuhin mo mang mawala na yung pain, it’s—in a way—something you cannot control,” she said.

Carla confessed that it might take a while for her to completely move on from her heartbreak. “Ako, I recognize it enough na nandiyan pa. Definitely, nandiyan pa siya. Ayoko namang sabihing wala kasi hindi din totoo ‘yun, so definitely, nandiyan nga and matagal pa yang proseso,” she continued.

Will she be able to face her former husband if he tries to reconnect with her? “Hindi. Hindi muna. At this point, parang hindi ko kakayanin. If ever he calls, hindi ko kakayaning kausapin siya,” confessed Carla, who also revealed that the last time they saw each other was in February this year.

The local star was also asked if there’s still a space in her heart for Tom. “Honestly, hindi ko masasagot na yes or no. Like I said, yung love naman, hindi siya nagdi-disappear or parang hindi mo nababawasan ng kusa,” she said.

Tom, who is an American citizen, announced their divorce in June. “I left the Philippines for the US last March 13, with the realization that despite all my efforts, Carla had already given up on our marriage,” he said in a statement posted by his manager Popoy Caritavito. “It was not a perfect relationship, but we both know how much we loved each other,” he added.
