Tom Rodriguez announces divorce from Carla Abellana

Tom Rodriguez revealed on Friday that he is divorced from Carla Abellana.

In a statement posted by his manager, Popoy Caritavito, Tom said that his marriage with Abellana has already fallen apart.

"I left the Philippines for the US last March 13, with the realization that despite all my efforts, Carla had already given up on our marriage," he said.

He said that while words were said against him, it is only them who know the truth. He also stated that he refuses to let their situation be used for news.

"It was not a perfect relationship, but we both know how much we loved each other," the GMA 7 actor added. "I will no longer dwell on the reasons why our marriage fell apart. So many lies have been said of me which are completely untrue and utterly unfair."

Tom said that while he "may have fallen short as a partner," he never laid a hand on Carla.

"I have accepted her decision that it is time to move forward, independent from each other. I have to teach myself how to fall out of love from her," he said, adding that he has his family to lean on.

Tom, who is an American citizen, then revealed that he and Carla are now divorced.

"Now that the divorce decree is final, I truly wish Carla's birthday wish be granted and that she finds the happiness she is searching for," he said.

One June 16, Carla broke her silence on the rumors about their marriage.

Replying to a comment left on her YouTube vlog, the actress said she was "disrespected," "betrayed," and "made to look stupid."

She said that in her seven years as boyfriend-girlfriend, she was not allowed to do a lot of things.

"7 taon na po akong bawal magalit, magtampo, masaktan, mabigo, malungkot, madismaya dahil hindi po pwede," she alleged.

"Makakatikim po ako kahit subukan ko pong ipaliwanag sa kanya na nasasaktan niya ako at hindi po tama ang ginagawa niya. Paulit-ulit ko pong pinapaalala sa kanya na hindi po ako kalaban at mabuti po ang kalooban at intensyon ko."

Carla and Tom wed on October 23, 2021 in Batangas.

The couple sparked divorce rumours after Carla was spotted without her wedding ring in February. Tom also deactivated his Instagram account and Carla was no longer found in his following and follower list.

Rey Abellana, Carla's father, later on confirmed that the couple is going through a rough path, saying that a "one-night stand" was the cause.
