‘Riverdale’ star Vanessa Morgan announces engagement to basketball player James Karnik
Vanessa Morgan just got engaged to professional basketball player James Karnik.
The 32-year-old actress announced their engagement on her Instagram page as she greeted her followers a Merry Christmas.
“Merry Christmas Eve from me and my fiancée,” she captioned her post, sharing snaps from their engagement.
“This relationship is a testimony to the blessings God brings when you fully surrender and trust in his perfect timing. I’m so grateful to get to experience this kind of love in this lifetime,” she wrote in a separate post on Christmas Day.
In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, the Riverdale alum revealed that the engagement happened on Dec. 21 at Glow Langley in Canada.
"James knows how much I love Christmas, especially all the festive lights, so he took me to the Langley Glow Light Festival," she said. Morgan added that she thought Karnik was going to propose on Christmas morning, so it was a “complete shock” when the latter popped the question that night.
Karnik invited her for a walk that night despite having an injury, which made her suspicious, though she still didn’t think about it that much.
"Then, in the middle of all the lights and people, James put down his crutches to 'adjust his shoe,' and that’s when I started to suspect something was up," the actress told the outlet. "He dropped his crutches, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him."
Karnik gave her a custom Secret Butterfly Garden Ring from Brilliant Earth that had a 4.64-carat, oval-cut lab-grown diamond with a 14K rose gold twisted band. It was also adorned with white and blue marquise-cut diamonds shaped like butterflies on the side.
This came months after the two welcomed their first child together, Kaia, who will turn five months old on Dec. 27. She also has a three-year-old son River, whom she shares with ex-husband Michael Kopech.
Morgan is known for her role as Toni in the series Riverdale. She was also a part of other shows and films Margaux, Pimp, and Wild Cards, among others.
