PBA courtside reporter Selina Dagdag remains hopeful amid rare cancer diagnosis: 'There is immense love in and behind all these'

Despite being diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, Philippine Basketball Association courtside reporter Selina Dagdag holds on to her faith.

Dagdag, the wife of NLEX player Kevin Alas, posted about her condition on April 29 on Instagram, saying she has been battling Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia for almost a month.

According to Cancer.gov, Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia is a rare group of tumors wherein abnormal trophoblast cells grow inside the uterus after conception. It develops during the early stages of pregnancy and affects one in every 1,000 pregnant women in the US.

"When I first heard of the news, I fell on Kevin's arms as I repeatedly cried, 'Help me, God,'" Dagdag said.

"Cancer was my biggest fear and to have it in my twenties was a big shock for me," she added. "But I praise the Lord that He already made Himself known to me during this season of my life."

The reporter continued to talk about how she would have reacted differently if it weren't for her faith. "I would've thought this was a cruel prognosis. I would've been bitter, angry, even resentful," she said.

In late 2021, Dagdag became pregnant but miscarried earlier in January 2022.

Despite the sad news, she remained hopeful then and remains hopeful now, as she faces cancer.

"Though it is difficult to see now, there is IMMENSE love in and behind all these. With God, there are no plan Bs... He has it all under control. As such, I rest and trust in Him," Dagdag wrote.

Athletes Greg Slaughter, RR Pogoy, Jeron Teng, Arwind Santos, Julia Morado, and more sent their well wishes and love by leaving comments on her post.

"Praying for your healing Selina! Stay strong," wrote sports reporter Pauline Verzosa.
