Kim Chiu on love teams: 'Mahirap nung araw, ngayon mas madali siya'
Kim Chiu got candid on how she thinks being in a love team is much easier now compared to how it was back in the day.
The actress gave her two cents on one of the most common tropes in the Philippine entertainment scene as she appeared in Barbie Forteza's vlog on her YouTube channel.
After being asked to compare love teams then and now and if she saw any improvements, Kim looked back on her own experience with regard to how she was paired with her former partner Gerald Anderson.
"Nagsimula ako sa isang love team as KimErald sa PBB (Pinoy Big Brother), and formula talaga siya sa Philippine series or Philippine movie kasi tayong mga Pilipino, gustong gusto natin ma-in love. Favorite natin 'yun," she said.
"Pero 'yung opinion ko is, nagbago talaga ang love team ngayon. Kasi dati, kayo't kayo lang. 'Yung parang, kayo 'yung magka-love team, kayo na sa lahat. Ngayon, pwede ka nang umikot. Isa na siyang maluwag na mundo na hindi na masyadong nakatago," she added.
Kim noted that viewers have become more accepting that love team partners can pair up with other people and still make it work.
"Understanding na sila, marunong na silang ihiwalay 'yung real and reel. [It's not always the case] na kapag love team, kayo na talaga for life, magpakasal na kayo, bawal ka manglalaki o mambabae," she said.
But the reality is, being in a love team can help actors become more popular, as Kim stressed, "Kapag nasa love team ka, mas sisikat ka. Mas mabilis, kasi dalawang tao kayong magtutulungan umangat, kaysa sa ikaw na individual."
"Kaya kapag nahanap mo 'yung perfect mong ka-love team, mabilis 'yung pag-angat mo talaga kasi parang iba 'yung suporta ng mga tao kapag nasa love team ka. Iba 'yung tilian, sigawan," she continued.
While the It's Showtime host shared that being in a pairing can be fun, it was a lot more difficult in the past.
"Masaya ang maging parte ka ng love team, lalo na may fans na sumusuporta," Kim remarked. "Pero mahirap din ang love team nung araw, ngayon mas madali siya for both persons."
Kim was paired with Gerald for a slew of projects, such as Sana Maulit Muli, My Girl, Tayong Dalawa, First Day High, I’ve Fallen For You, Paano Na Kaya, and Till My Heartaches End.
After their team-up ended, the actress subsequently entered an on-screen pairing with Xian Lim. They eventually turned their reel chemistry into a real relationship for almost 12 years, but have now parted ways since December last year.
