Pia Wurtzbach finishes her first New York City marathon: 'I did it! I did it! I did it!'
Pia Wurtzbach has crossed the finish line at her first New York City marathon, something that she's been so excited about.
Before the run, Miss Universe 2015 shared a photo with her runner's bib. "For years, I was looking for something that would get me excited as much as Miss Universe did. I kept looking and trying new things but couldn't find that feeling again... until now."
Wurtzbach is one of 170 Filipinos who joined the New York City Marathon on Nov. 6. She began training for the 26.2-mile (42km) race in February.
"I got used to training in ovals (my farthest distance before the marathon was 32km and it was also in an oval) so I found it amazing to see really how far 42km looks like in real life," she wrote in an Instagram story.
Pia also documented the things she saw during the run, including Filipino crowds who cheered her on.
"I really enjoyed this run. There was no need for music because the streets were very much alive. And each borough had their own vibe," she said.
Throughout the race, the beauty queen's fiance Jeremy Jauncey was in her corner, taking videos and cheering for her. He even ran alongside her for the last few miles.
"She did it! COVID, work, and travel schedule, and she still achieved her goal," Jauncey said.
The entrepreneur also took a video of Pia beaming as she held her finisher medal. "I did it! I did it! I did it! My phone wallpaper is now a reality," she said.
Wurtzbach finished the 42km marathon in 6:29:32.
