Celebrity makeup artist Marife Mordido has passed away after a battle with breast cancer.
Her family announced her passing on her Facebook account. “Dear Family and Friends, we would like to share with you that our dearest mother, Marife Mordido, is now with the Lord,” they said in a statement.
Her wake is taking place at Cosmopolitan-SF Memorial Chapels in Pasig until Dec. 25, though it will only be for her family and close friends on the last day.
“We kindly ask for your sincerity, respect, and understanding during your visit. Please wear white as a symbol of togetherness with the Lord,” they said.
Local stars express grief at Mordido's passing
TV personality Christine Babao looked back on her friendship with Mordido, which started when she auditioned for TV Patrol and Tatak Pinoy 32 years ago.
“The first time I met you, the first thing I told you was ‘Mukha kang artista with your cute face.’ 'Yun pala, as a makeup artist, ikaw ang magpapaganda sa aming mga TV anchors.”
“I call you my lucky charm kasi twice ikaw nag-makeup sa akin for TV auditions, and twice din akong nakuha sa mga auditions na 'yan,” Babao said.
“Lalong lumalim ang ating samahan dahil 4 a.m. pa lang ng madaling araw, minemakeup-an mo na kami nina Pappu & Yeng. Ikaw ang makeup artist ko sa aming kasal, sa mga endorsements & corporate hostings, other TV show & private functions,” she added.
“Nitong Sept. lang, [I] surprised you with a [birthday] lunch at Cabalen. You looked so healthy. Imagine our shock and worry when you relapsed the following month. We visited you in the hospital. We prayed with you and for you, you were such a fighter, you wanted to live longer and survive this, the Big C,” she continued, describing Mordido as an “angel” and a “loyal friend.”
Dr. Vicki Belo, meanwhile, shared a part of her vlog with Mordido as she recalled their journey together in their personal and professional lives.
“28 years of togetherness [Marife Mordido]. My good vibes girl, my protector, and one of my closest friends. I love you so much,” she wrote.
Belo’s youngest daughter, Scarlet Snow, also mourned her death, sharing some photos of them together with the caption, “One day I’ll see you again in heaven, Ate [Marife Mordido.] Thank you for taking good care of Mommy and me. I will miss you a lot. Please kiss Jesus for me.”
Social media personality Small Laude also expressed her grief at Mordido's demise.
“I can not believe you’re gone! You were so kind and loyal. Goodbye, Marife,” she wrote on Instagram.
Mordido, also known by her dearest as "Ate Marife," “Peng,” or “Pepot,” worked for big names in showbiz. Aside from Babao, Belo, and Laude, her celebrity clientele also included Iza Calzado and Andrea Brillantes, among others. She was in the entertainment industry for 30 years.
