Fil-Am artists Saweetie and H.E.R. ‘touch down in PH’ for latest music video ‘Closer’
Talented Filipinas have landed!
Filipino-American rapper Saweetie recently released her latest single Closer, in collaboration with fellow Fil-Am Grammy- and Oscar-winning artist H.E.R., and it’s a trip you wouldn’t want to miss.
The pair released the new song's music video on Feb. 15 as a post-Valentine’s gift to all their fans across the world.
The Grammy-nominated rapper and multi-award-winning R&B singer ride aboard a fictional airline called ICY Airlines—a reference to the rapper’s sophomore EP—jetting off to Paris, Tokyo, and home (literal court) Philippines, with Saweetie hanging out with a different guy each setting.
However, the music video directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who has also worked with the likes of Ariana Grande and Doja Cat, was only shot in a studio and both artists have yet to revisit the Philippines due to the pandemic.
Closer’s lyrics speak about wanting to have fun and let loose with someone you like, with the sound laced with dance-worthy tunes.
Saweetie’s newest track with H.E.R. is in anticipation of her forthcoming full-length debut album Pretty B-tch Music in 2022 and it also serves as a follow up from her single Icy Chain released in November 2021. Meanwhile, her hit song Best Friend with rapper Doja Cat is in the running for Best Rap Song in this year's Grammys.
The Fil-Am pair’s music video has racked up millions of views just after a few days of its release. Closer currently has over six million views (and counting) on YouTube, while the song has so far amassed over two million streams on Spotify.
