Joshua Garcia, Julia Barretto reunite for new movie 'UN/HAPPY FOR YOU'
Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto are set to reunite for an upcoming film titled UN/HAPPY FOR YOU to be directed by Peterson Vargas.
The film follows the story of two exes, who have hurt each other, meeting again after their breakup. Star Cinema and Viva Films are collaborating for the upcoming project written by Kookai Labayen, Jen Chuaunsu, and Crystal San Miguel.
The two stars dated in real life from 2017 to 2019 and have worked together on numerous projects.
When they first heard about the project, Joshua said yes right away. He said it’s been a long since he has worked with Julia, “And saya lang na nagkanya kanya kaming journey, ngayon magbabalikan kami sa pelikula.”
As per Julia, she said that there were several attempts for them to work again together, “when a good material comes along with a great team and being reunited with Joshua is such an exciting idea.”
"It almost felt like maybe it was the right time, it's the right material, we're both in a good place in our life. I'm happy na magkakatrabaho tayo uli," she said.
In regards of the storyline of the movie, when they first heard about it, Joshua enthusiastically said “bilang actors, feeling ko hindi tayo mahihirapan,” given their relationship history.
On the other hand, “it looks familiar,” was Julia’s reaction when she heard about the storyline. She said that she didn’t expect it to be super far from what everybody has experienced, not just between her and Joshua.
She added that it will be a painful and, hopefully, a healing movie.
When asked about what to expect about their chemistry as actors, Joshua said that “kinakapa na naman ulit yung isa’t isa, kahit ang tagal na namin magkatrabaho before.”
“Para sayang familiar yet a new place. This feels familiar pero parang bago din because we are getting to re-know each other,” Julia added.
Joshua and Julia have starred in films and teleseryes including Vince and Kath and James, Love You To The Stars and Back, Ngayon at Kailanman, I Love You, Hater, and Block Z. They last appeared together in Moira Dela Torre's music video for Paubaya.
The two stars also had a romance off-screen from 2017 to 2019. Despite their breakup, Joshua said that he's willing to work with the actress again in May 2023.
A release date for the film has yet to be revealed but it is set for a 2024 premiere.
