Howie Severino shares why he was brought to the hospital on Christmas Day
Journalist Howie Severino was brought to the hospital on Christmas Day after a back pain concern.
“On Christmas Day, after the festive hubbub of the previous night, I found myself in the ER, trying to find out if my back pain was the symptom of something serious,” Severino wrote in his Instagram post, sharing a photo of him on a hospital bed holding a book.
He added that his X-ray result showed no fracture and that the doctor believes it was a muscle strain after the “heavy lifting” he did in the garden.
He then recalled carrying a toog tree seedling a few days ago that was “much heavier than it looked,” which he may have carried in a safe way.
“I should have known better. Toog is known as one of the tallest native trees in the Philippines. Even a young one wanted to leave an impression,” he said.
“That one taught me a lesson: Don’t overestimate my strength, and don’t underestimate a toog (or Philippine rosewood, scientific name: Petersianthus quadrialatus),” he added.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Christmas-duty hospital staff members at Medical City Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Followers and colleagues expressed their wishes for Severino’s recovery.
“Get well soon, Howie. Sending prayers of healing!” showbiz reporter Nelson Canlas wrote.
“And don’t underestimate that age is also catching up. Many things you think you can do but no longer can. [G]et well!” another one wrote.
Apart from being a broadcast journalist, Severino also hosts The Howie Severino Podcast which tackles a variety of topics, mostly about life and social issues. It featured guests like journalist Kara David, historians Ambeth Ocampo and Xiao Chua, Jose Mari Chan, and the late Robert Alejandro, among others.
