Pokwang in tears as she reveals she is now a 'proud lola'
Pokwang expressed her joy at becoming a grandmother, sharing that her eldest daughter, Mae, has a four-year-old son.
The veteran comedian made the surprise announcement during her guest appearance at Fast Talk with Boy Abunda after she was asked about what love advice she could give Mae.
After telling her daughter to take good care of her heart, she asked if she could reveal something about her on national television. With Mae's consent, Pokwang got emotional as she shared, "May apo na ako, four years old. I’m a lola."
Pokwang raved about how "super super cute" her grandson, Gabriel, is and how he's "another blessing" in her life.
"Super, super cute na bata, super talino at four years old. I'm a proud lola," Pokwang said.
The actress explained that her grandson was born during the COVID-19 pandemic after Mae's work in New York got canceled due to the lockdowns.
She admitted to feeling initial apprehension about her daughter's pregnancy, but ultimately, the joy of becoming a grandmother overwhelmed her.
I am so, so happy.
She then revealed that her ex-partner was the one who wanted to kick Mae, who is now 28 years old, out of the house for getting pregnant outside of marriage, which did not sit right with both of them.
"Bakit mo palalayasin eh anak ko 'yan? Pandemic, mas kailangan ako ng anak ko," Pokwang recalled telling her ex.
Mae added, "Between me and him, parang mas ako ‘yung may karapatan na nasa bahay, hindi siya kung tutuusin."
At the time, Pokwang did not disclose this to Mae as she didn't want her to foster ill feelings towards her former partner. While they chose not to identify him, it can be recalled that Pokwang was previously in a relationship with American actor Lee O’Brian, who is also the father of her youngest daughter Malia.
Mae assured that she and Gabriel's father are still together and that they plan to get married in the future. As of now, they are still prioritizing caring for their son.
