Sister of Filipina pro-boxer Norj Guro to pursue legal action against cyber bullies

The sister of Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) world atomweight champion Norj Guro warned that they will pursue legal action against social media users who allegedly bullied the athlete online.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Princess Diamond Banua Guro expressed her profound anguish over the cruel remarks circulating on social media disparaging her sister's appearance after her Oct. 12 match against Camilla Zamorano.

The match took place in Hermosillo, Mexico, as part of the prestigious World Boxing Council (WBC) International atomweight championship. Zamorano emerged as the winner against Guro via unanimous decision.

Princess Diamond highlighted her sister's bravery in the ring and the emotional toll the hurtful comments are taking on Norj.

"I just want to defend my sister, Norj Guro, the one in the picture (the Filipina boxer), and kindly ask everyone to stop making comments like 'T*******g mukha 'yan parang Nanay ni Whamos Cruz,' 'Wala pang laban pero bugbog-sarado na ang mukha,' 'Babae na pala si Whamos,' 'Parang marites ng Pilipinas ang mukha,' 'Viva Mexico vs. Ina ni Whamos,' at iba pa," she wrote.

While she acknowledged that some jokes can be seen as harmless fun, she strongly emphasized that this particular brand of humor is actually a form of bullying.

"Alam ko na minsan may mga ganitong biro, pero sa tingin niyo po ba hindi na ito bullying? My sister is not just a boxer—she's a professional athlete, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother to her two daughters. The one you are bullying is a Multi-International Belt titleholder, who has trained hard and sacrificed so much to reach her achievements."

'Please think twice'

Princess Diamond also urged content creators to "think twice" before sharing their posts or crafting their content.

"If you're just adding to this hate for views or likes, please think twice. Instead of creating content that hurts people, sana you use your platform to promote respect and positivity," she said.

"Yes, the Mexican boxer is pretty, but that doesn't mean you should judge my sister's appearance, even if it's just a joke. You are not just bullying my sister; you are also harassing the Mexican boxer because she is a minor. Both of them are people with feelings, and these comments hurt them," she continued.

Princess Diamond also explained that Norj didn't deserve the comments on her appearance after her hardships.

"You all don't know what my sister is going through. Just before she won her WBC Silver title last 2022, she went through a deeply painful time—her son passed away just a few months before her fight," she shared, adding that the boxer wears the initials "JCJ" on her shorts in the memory of her baby boy.

Ultimately, the sister said that she will take a stand against cyber bullies. She called on the public to take a screenshot and send posts or comments that appear to be bullying Norj.

"We are taking this seriously and will pursue legal action if necessary," Princess Diamond said.

Norj began boxing at 19. In 2018, she became the World Boxing Council (WBC) Intercontinental Atomweight Champion and was the former WBC Silver Atomweight Champion, a title she secured in March 2022 in Dubai.

In May 2024, she won the title of Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) atomweight world champion.
