Rachel McAdams says she 'found out later' that 'everyone' participated in the 'Mean Girls' reunion

The cast of Mean Girls surprised their fans in November with an epic reunion for a commercial. However, a certain Plastic was nowhere to be found, and now she's telling the reason why.

Rachel McAdams told Variety why she didn't join the Walmart commercial that brought back Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, and more to the North Shore High School.

“I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest,” she told the outlet. “I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag.”

Rachel, who played Regina George in the film, added that she “didn’t know that everyone” had agreed to take part in the ad.

“I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my Plastics,” she said. “But yeah, I found that out later."

While commercials are not her cup of tea, she said that “a movie sounded awesome.” But again, she's not going to be in the upcoming adaptation of the Broadway musical version of the movie that is set to be released in January 2024.

“Tina (Fey) and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make it all work in the end,” she said. “I was really down for whatever she wanted to do."

Speaking about the new screen adaptation, she added, “I think the direction it went in will be fantastic and I cannot wait to see it.”

In Nov. 1, Walmart released a holiday commercial featuring the Plastics and their fellow classmates Kevin Gnapoor (Rajiv Surendra) and Damian (Daniel Franzese) as adults.

Talking to People, Lindsay and Lacey gushed about the joy of their Mean Girls reunion after filming a commercial.

“It was so nice being back together after all these years," Lindsay said. "It was great catching up with everyone.”

Lacey, for her part, said “It was wonderful to spend the day with Amanda and Lindsay.”

“It was so much fun getting to reminisce and be together again,” she added.

Mean Girls premiered in 2004 and has since become a cult classic. It follows the story of a naive teenage girl Cady (Lindsay Lohan) who moves to a public school after years of homeschooling in Africa. Cady finds her footing in high school, joining the elite Plastics, but later realizes how shallow they are.
