Charlie Puth wrote song in the middle of sex: 'The melody just kind of popped into my head'
There's no doubt that Charlie Puth is dedicated to his musical craft, so much so that he even scribbled down a song idea that popped into his head while he was in the middle of having sex.
Puth revealed this while speaking with Interview Magazine. The song in question would eventually become Marks on My Neck, the ninth song in his 2022 studio album Charlie.
"I wrote the song in the middle of the act," the 31-year-old singer and songwriter recounted to the publication. "Maybe I should have focused on the act a little bit more, but the melody just kind of popped into my head and I actually had stopped and recorded a little quick voice note and then had to get back into the act."
During that time, Puth had been trying to get over someone, which is why he decided to meet and get to know new people. While he shared that it "probably wasn’t going to work out" with the person he had shared an intimate moment with, he was nevertheless grateful for the experience.
"I remember waking up and looking at myself in the mirror, noticing these marks on my neck, and every day they’d heal and fade but so would the person who put them on me. And we went our separate ways," he said.
"I’m thankful for the experience and maybe they are as well but I just thought it was interesting that a person can fade away at the same pace [as] the scars on your neck," he added.
Puth graced the cover of Interview Magazine while showcasing his bare self, looking confident and captivating as he posed in a series of seductive shots in the nude, including him in the bathtub. It seems that the singer was more than comfortable doing these shots, as he revealed that he has "always loved being naked."
"I’m not captivated by the way that I look, but I know that I’m not ugly. So sometimes I’d look at myself in the mirror and I’d be like, 'I really do have kind of a nice butt.' And what’s wrong with liking your features?" he said.
He continued, "I have really long arms and abnormally large hands. That’s probably why I play piano. Even today, I woke up and it’s kind of fun to look at yourself naked and admire your body."
Puth also teased some details about his next album, "Now that I’ve grown as a person, the goal is to make the music that’s going to be playing in the background when I do look at myself in the mirror. Because I’ve never made [music] for myself. I’ve always made it for other artists and I’ve always made it for other people."
