On-set crushes to 'broken' Tweets: Jake Cuenca and Kylie Verzosa's relationship timeline
A beauty queen and an actor couple might sound like the stuff of movie plotlines, but for Jake Cuenca and Kylie Versoza, it's been their sweet reality for three years now.
With their relationship making headlines, we take a step back to look at the timeline between the award-winning actor and the country's Miss International 2016.
2017: An on-screen attraction
Though they announced their relationship in 2019, Cuenca said that he had been attracted to the beauty queen as early as 2017 when he starred alongside her in the Coco Martin-led film, Ang Panday.
The newly-minted Miss International portrayed one of the goddess characters alongside Mariel De Leon and Martin. Meanwhile, Jake played the film's villain character.
Shortly after they announced their relationship, Jake had poked fun at himself for having a crush on Kylie
"Yung panahon na hindi ka pa crush ng crush mo. Mabuti nalang nag pagupit na ako," the actor wrote alongside the 2017 crew photo.
2018: Working, the second time around
In 2018, they became co-stars once again in the ABS-CBN teleserye, Los Bastardos. That was then they officially became friends, as their characters in the series had more screen time together.
2019: Making it official
After dating rumors swirled between the pair, Jake and Kylie went on the show Tonight with Boy Abunda to confirm their relationship. When Boy asked the about the rumors, the happy couple took each other's hand.
"Oo naman," Jake answered while Kylie quipped: "Hindi pa ba obvious?"
Kylie then recalled that Jake wasn't her type because of his long hair at the time. But Jake shared that he started being attracted to the beauty queen the moment he saw her walk by on set.
He also revealed that slid into Kylie's Instagram direct messages, but she had ignored the actor at first.
"Pag gusto mo yung tao medyo nato-torpe ka pa so I didn't get the number," Jake shared. "So on Instagram, minessage ko tas wala. Hindi pinansin."
2020: Facing controversies and the pandemic together
While the two have always been lovey-dovey on social media since confirming their relationship, they've remained fairly quiet about their living arrangements.
During the onset of the pandemic, the conversation shifted to how the two still managed to see each other amid the pandemic.
When asked if they were already living together, Kylie had choice words to say for those judging their decision.
“I’ve been independent since college pa ako and I think Jake and I are at the right age and both of us have worked very hard to get what we are today. So I think dapat i-respect ng tao ‘yung desisyon namin," she shared.
"Kasi we are very independent people who are just trying to be the best version of ourselves. We’re not trying to hurt anyone. We’re just having fun with our lives and I think hindi na kami teenybopper.
"Hindi na kami younger 20’s. I hope people respect our decisions we have with our lives. Kasi we’re already off age," she concluded.
2021: Proposal prank and Jake's accident
In 2021, now together for two years, the couple remained strong as they once again made headlines. In February of 2021, Jake pulled a fake proposal prank on his girlfriend for a vlog. Netizens found fault with Jake's actions, callimg him "insensitive" as the video showed Kylie being excited over the proposal.
Shortly after, Kylie came to the defense of her beau via Instagram Stories.
“Hello guys! I knew that Jake was going to ask me this question before filming. No feelings or humans were hurt while filming this video hehe, peace and love ??,” wrote the beauty queen
“Jake is the best boyfriend for me."
In October of 2021, Jake was caught in a vehicular accident wherein a delivery driver was hit by a stray bullet during a car chase between the actor and the police. The actor had rammed into a police car during an anti-narcotics operation in Mandaluyong.
In a post where he had visited the rider, Kylie had commented "proud of you, boo" in support of her boyfriend.
