#FangirlGuide: Meet the cast of the upcoming K-drama thriller ‘Island’
It looks like Amazon is hopping on the K-drama train.
ICYMI, Amazon Prime Video has announced the star-studded cast of the upcoming K-drama mystery thriller, Island, which will be premiering via the streaming platform globally and TVING in South Korea in December 2022.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Island is based on the webtoon of the same name written by Yoon In-wan and illustrated by Yang Kyung-il. The series revolves around the journey of special beings destined to defend Jeju Island from evil forces.
Produced by Studio Dragon, YLab Flex, and Gilstory Ent, the K-drama will be directed by Bae Jong and written by Jang Yoon-mi. So, as we wait for its premiere, get to know the star-studded cast of the series below:
Kim Nam-gil
Kim Nam-gil has been a longstanding name in the Korean entertainment industry, with Queen Seondeok, The Fiery Priest, The Bloodsucker, The Unsung War, and Heartless as some of his best works.
The actor will take on the role of Van who is destined to save the world from evil. He will soon find himself torn between protecting himself from danger and sacrificing his life for the sake of everyone.
Cha Eun-woo
Korean heartthrob Cha Eun-woo rose to fame after taking on lead roles in popular webtoon adaptations My ID is Gangnam Beauty and True Beauty. He debuted as the visual, vocalist, and face of the K-pop boy group ASTRO in February 2016.
Eun-woo will portray Priest John, a Catholic priest who specializes in exorcism.
Lee Da-hee
Lee Da-hee gained prominence after starring as Seo Do-yeon in the 2013 legal drama I Can Hear Your Voice. The model and actress is also known for her role as Kang Sa-ra in Beauty Inside.
Da-hee will play the role of Won Mi-ho who was sent to Jeju Island after causing trouble at home. The character is also known as the heir to a big conglomerate.
Sung Joon
Another veteran actor on the list, Sung Joon is known for his dramas Flower Band, High Society, I Need Romance 3, and Madame Antoine: The Love Therapist, among others.
Sung Joon is cast as Gung-tan, a man raised alongside Van, who turned against the drama’s leads. His character suddenly turns to the dark side after a series of events in the drama.
