Kristel Fulgar reveals reason behind canceled hosting gig for Seo In Guk's Manila fan meet
Kristel Fulgar has revealed why her hosting gig for Seo In Guk’s Manila fan meet got canceled at the last minute.
The Korean singer-actor held his first-ever fan meeting in the Philippines on Saturday, Aug. 12. Many fans were left puzzled after the Filipina star announced on her social media pages that she will no longer serve as its host—just an hour before the highly anticipated event.
In her YouTube vlog uploaded on Tuesday, Aug. 16, the actress-content creator shared some clips taken before the fan meeting, where she is seen preparing to host the affair.
While preparing for her one-on-one meeting with the K-pop artist backstage, however, Kristel revealed that she was told by the Korean director that she would no longer host the meet-and-greet.
“It’s my first time experiencing this scenario in my 20 years in the entertainment industry,” she said.
“I was already here by 7 a.m. I rehearsed, and the Korean technical director eventually told me that I won’t be hosting anymore,” she recounted.
Kristel said it left her surprised and confused, noting that she prepared well for the event, especially since she's been a fan of Seo In Guk for 11 years now.
“I prepared for this for so long. I took the time and prepared myself for this. I never accepted any hosting gigs, just this one, because for me, I was doing it for Seo In Guk,” she opened up.
“I know I’m not an expert in hosting but I know I can connect with my co-fans and that’s what I really wanted to do,” she added.
Kristel shared that the director noticed her “lack of energy” during the rehearsal. While she assured them that she will do her best in the next one, the team decided to contact another host for the event.
“Since it was just a rehearsal, I’m not used to giving out 100% of my energy. So if they found my energy lacking during the rehearsal, I told them I will do my best. I expected them to let me up the stage again to show them the 100% I was talking about, but they didn’t allow me, and they currently contacted another host,” she said.
Kristel admitted she felt ashamed about what happened and expressed her apologies to everyone concerned, including her own supporters who attended the fan meeting to extend their support for her during the supposed hosting gig.
“They keep telling me that they just want a good event. They didn’t even give me a second chance to prove myself,” she said. “And I’m ashamed to the people that already expected to see me up there. I’m so sorry, guys,” she added.
Despite this, Kristel got her fangirling experience of a lifetime as she was able to meet Seo In Guk backstage. Aside from taking photos with him, she also achieved her ultimate dream of singing a duet of his hit song All for You.
“It’s truly an honor. I’m so happy today. I might not be hosting but it’s alright I’m glad to meet you,” she told the Korean star.
Seo In Guk debuted in the entertainment industry in 2009 through the first season of local singing competition Superstar K, where he emerged as the winner. In October of the same year, the singer-turned-actor launched his first extended play, titled Calling, with a lead single composed by the famous BigHit Music founder, Bang Si-hyuk. The 35-year-old star has released seven albums since his debut.
He began venturing into K-dramas with Love Rain, which premiered in March 2012, and Reply 1997 that was released in July of the same year.
Apart from these, Seo In Guk is best known for starring in Master's Sun, Hello Monster, Doom at Your Service, and King of High School. Further proving his acting prowess is the Best Artist award he received from the 2022 Asian Artist Awards in South Korea.
