In a "plot twist" moment, Darren Espanto revealed that he had to be rushed to the hospital after suffering from appendicits in the middle of a flight.

Through his Instagram stories, the actor posted pictures of himself being wheeled to the operating room as he shared an update about his health condition.

"From the airport to the hospital. Sabi sa inyo, grabeng plot twist ang nangyari sa'kin eh. Appendicitis suddenly hit during my flight back to Manila," Darren wrote.

Because of his condition, the actor had to cancel his hosting on the noontime program It's Showtime as well as his appearance at the Tandaya Festival 2024 Samar Day on Aug. 11.

"Shoutout to my family and friends who have prayed for me," Darren wrote.

"To the producers of the shows I was supposed to be part of in the next few days, I am so sad to have to cancel so last minute. I hope to work with y'all soon pa rin po. Thank you for understanding," he added.

In another post, the local artist took a video of himself doing a rock sign as he is about to undergo surgery. He wrote on X, "Brb. Getting my appendix removed. Talk to y’all later! And pray for me please!"

Hours before sharing the update on his medical emergency, he had shared a selfie of him and his younger sister Lynelle as they were getting cozy on their flight back to Manila.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, appendicitis happens when your appendix that is joined to the large intestine gets ruptured due to infection. This can happen as soon as 48 to 72 hours after you experience symptoms. If not treated as a medical emergency, it can be life-threatening.

Darren returned to Manila after visiting his hometown in Canada. He was also in California for the "ASAP Natin ‘To" reunion concert, where he performed with other Kapamilya stars such as Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Erik Santos, Piolo Pascual, Kyle Echarri, Donny Pangilinan, Belle Mariano, Janella Salvador, Yeng Constantino, and KZ Tandingan.
